A guide on how to set up personal accounts on the Library Databases

Why create a personal database account?

Creating personal accounts in the Library’s databases is not necessary to access the database content. A number of Library databases do give you the option of creating accounts.There are a number of benefits to creating personal database accounts, particularly within databases you frequently utilize. Personal database accounts may allow you to

  • Save and organize resources
  • Retrieve your search history
  • Set up various alerts

This page will explain why you may want to set up an account within each of the Library databases. It will also detail how to set up each personal account.

Database Quickfinder

The tabs in the How to Create Personal Database Accounts are organised by Database provider. Check which specific Database you want to create a personal account for and then check the Database tab. The databases are listed alphabetically.

How to Create Personal Database Accounts

Personal Accounts with Ebsco Databases (Academic Search Complete, APA PsycArticles, Business Source Complete, CINAHL Ultimate, Health Source Nursing/Academic SocINDEX with Full Text and SportDISCUS )

Why create an account?

MyEbsco allows you to:

  • Create folders for collected saved citations
  • Save useful searches or your search history
  • Create search alerts
  • Create journal alerts
  • Share folders with other researchers or group members 

How to create an account.

1. Click on the Sign In link on the top toolbar of any Ebsco Database

2. Click on the Create an account 

3. Enter your name and email address (we recommend you use your University email) and create a password

4.Click on Create Account

 

 

 

Personal Accounts with ProQuest (Health Research Premium Collection, and Social Science Premium Collection)

Why create an account?

My Research is a tool that you can use to save, manage, and organize the content and supporting materials you find and create in ProQuest. You can include documents, searches, search alerts, RSS feeds, and more in My Research. Setting up a My Research account is simple and free to all ProQuest users.

How to create an account

1. Click on the Profile icon located in the upper, right-hand corner of any page in the ProQuest platform.

2. Click on the Create  My Research account link

3. Enter your email (we recommend you use you university email and create a password.

4. Click on Create Account.

 

Personal Accounts with Elsevier (Science Direct, Scopus)

Why create an account?

With an Elsevier account you can:

  • Search history
  • Reading history
  • Manage alerts

How to create an account

1. When you are in an Elsevier database click on My Account on the top toolbar

2. Enter your email in the box (we recommend you use your university email) provided and click on Continue

3. Enter a password in the space provide

4.Click on Register

Personal Accounts with Emerald

With a user profile you can set up content alerts and save searches to review later. Use your profile to keep up to date with the latest journals, book series and Expert Briefings content without having to  search or browse. The save search function is especially useful when search criteria used are complex.  This allows you to save the results to review  again later. 

How to create an account

1 Click on Register for a profile

2. Enter your name and email address ( we recommend you use your University email) and click on Register

3. Then look for the activation email and click on the Login link

4. Set and confirm your email and click on continue

 

Personal Account with JSTOR databases (JSTOR – Arts and Sciences Collections Full Text, JSTOR – Ireland Collection  Full Text, JSTOR – Life Sciences Collection Full Text)

Why create an account?

With JSTOR Workspace, you can save your items and citations so that next time you log in, you can pick up where you left off.

How to create an account.

1. Click on the Register button on the top right of the screen

2. Enter your email (we recommend you use your university email) and create a password.

3. Click Create Account

To start saving content you find on JSTOR:

Create a personal account or sign in to your existing personal account.
Search for content on JSTOR, and choose the Save button save it to your Workspace.
Visit your Workspace to organize your saved items.
