Guide to using APA PsychArticles

EBSCOhost Basic Search

Basic search is useful when you are beginning your research or for finding background information on a topic.    To go to the Basic Search page, click on the Basic Search link below the EBSCOhost Advanced Search box.

To create a basic search:

1. Enter one or more keywords into the search box

2. Select a specific Search Mode such as "Find all my terms" or "SmartText Searching."

  • Find all my search terms adds AND between your keywords to find results with all your keywords e.g. badgers AND tuberculosis
  • Find any of my search terms adds OR between your keywords to find results with one OR the other of your keywords e.g. badgers OR tuberculosis
  • Proximity searches for your keywords within 5 words of each other in any order e.g.
  • SmartText Searching allows you copy and paste chunks of text into the search box.  EBSCOhost then uses it's own set of instructions to decide what the most important words are and searches for those.

 3. Apply Limiters such as Full Text, Peer Reviewed, publication type or date range.

4. Or use search options that expand your search, such as "Apply related words."

Click the Search button. The search results display.
