Finding and Using eBooks

Adobe Digital Editions

You will need to install Adobe Digital Editions on your laptop or PC.

Adobe Digital Editions allows you to activate up to 6 computers or devices on your account.

To read the same e-book in Adobe Digital Editions on multiple devices you need an ADE account and  Adobe ID.   Sign up is free.  You must activate each device using the same Adobe ID.

To create your Adobe account:

  1. Go to https://account.adobe.com
  2. Select Create an account.
  3. Enter your email address and password, then select Continue.
  4. You receive an email from Adobe with a link to verify your email address.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your Adobe account.

To install Adobe Digital Editions

  1. Go to https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html
  2. Select the download link for Macintosh or Windows
  3. An .acsm file will appear in the ‘Download’ area on your computer.
  4. Open this file and you will see a pop-up window that says 'Authorize Your Computer'.
  5. Select Adobe ID from the ebook vendor drop-down menu
  6. Enter your Adobe ID and password
  7. Click Authorize

Do not choose the ‘I want to authorize my computer without an ID’ option. Doing so would tie the book to the device and prevent you from accessing it on other devices.

Ebooks should now download automatically to your computer or laptop.

When you open the e-book on another device you need to sign in with the same Adobe ID again to authorise the new device to access the book.

iOS or Android Devices

Ebooks can be downloaded directly to iOS or Android mobile devices.   You will need to install the Bluefire Reader app on the device.  This is available free from Google Play Store or the Apple Store.  You will also need an Adobe ID to use the Bluefire Reader app.  The first time you run the Bluefire app you will be prompted to register with your Adobe ID.

Reset Adobe Password

Forgotten your Adobe account password.  Don't worry - you can reset it:

  • Go to your Adobe account sign in page, type in your email address and click continue.
  • Click Reset your password
  • In the Verify your identity screen, select a way to receive the verification code.
  • Enter the code sent to your email address or telephone number.
  • In the Reset your password screen, enter and confirm your new password.
