Text-to-Speech

Text-to-Speech reads English articles and passages out loud. It will  skip any content that isn’t in the English alphabet—like Chinese or Hebrew characters—as well as images, tables, charts, or graphs.

To use Text-to-Speech:

1. Find an item available in Full-Text and choose the Full-Text Online access option.

2. In the Online Full Text Viewer, click the Headphone icon in the tools menu to open the Listen panel on the right, then click Play to start listening.

3. Click the Forward or Back arrows to move through the article and listen to the parts you want.

4. Click the Volume icon to turn the sound on or off.

5. If you want, you can choose a playback speed from the drop-down menu before clicking the Play button.

6. Click the Download MP3 icon in the Listen panel to save an MP3 version of the article to your device so you can listen to it later.

7. Click the Text Highlighting toggle to turn on highlighting for the text as it's being read.

8. In the Text Highlighting box, pick a Word color and Sentence color to show which parts are being read.

To use Text-to-Speech:

1. Find an item available in full text and choose the PDF access option.

2.  In the PDF viewer, click the Headphone icon in the tools menu to open the Listen panel on the right and click the Play button to listen.

3. If you want, you can choose a playback speed from the drop-down menu before clicking the Play button.

4. Click the Download MP3 icon in the Listen panel to save an MP3 version of the article to your device so you can listen to it later.
