Guide to using IEEE Xplore

Personal Account

An IEEE personal account  allows you to:

  • Set search preferences
  • Save searches and search history
  • Get email or RSS alerts of saved search results

To sign up for a free IEEE account click Create Account in the top right of the screen.

Enter your name, email address, security question and a password into the form.

Passwords:

  • are case sensitive
  • must contain between 8 and 64 characters in an alpha-numeric combination
  • cannot contain spaces 
  • cannot contain the word password

Click the Create Account button to submit the form.  You will receive an email confirmation when your new IEEE account has been created.

You can log into your account and/or reset your password by clicking Personal Sign In in the top right of the screen.

 

After running a search, you can save it to re-use later.  You must be logged into your ScienceDirect personal account to save searches.

1. Click on Set Search Alerts

2. Give your search alert a name and save it.

3. To view your search alert go to My Settings > Alerts

4. Click on Saved Searches

5. Click on the saved search title to run the search

6. Click on the edit icon to change the search alert name

7. Click on the disable icon to temporarily disable the search alert

8. Click on the RSS icon to subscribe to receive updates via RSS 

9. Click on the remove icon to delete the search alert.

When signed in with an IEEE personal account, you can use My Research Projects to save and organise documents. You can create up to 15 projects with up to 1,000 documents each. Custom Tags let you connect documents with matching concepts within projects.

Go to My Settings and select My Research Projects from the drop down menu.

Click on Create New Project

Add a name for the project and a description, if desired. Select the Save button to create the project.

To add a document to a My Research Project click the folder icon (displays when you view the document by clicking on it's title link)

Select the folder you want to save the document to and click Save.
